Swimming with the T-Rex

So we are now in Drumheller, Alberta for most of the summer. We have been enjoying it here so far. For those of you not from Alberta, Drumheller is the town that is famous for its dinosaur fossils. There are dinosaur statues all over town and all kinds of dinosaur themed tourist attractions. Believe it or not, the picture above is of the "little" tyrannosaurus (Moses calls it the baby one).

This Saturday we went to the water park they have downtown. Moses did NOT like it. He was a little afraid of the dinosaurs (it took some convincing to get him to touch them) and he hates water being sprayed at him. But we went across the street and got ice cream, and with Moses that is really all you need to make the day a big hit! (by the way, we have discovered he actually has a favorite flavor - Moses always wants chocolate chip mint)

Of course once we told Moses it was time to go he wanted to do all the things he was too afraid of before. He splashed in the fountain, and then he wanted to climb all the dinosaurs. And we being the suckers that we are, let him stay longer as long as he was still being adventurous (I think he knew exactly what to do to stay longer and put off nap time). The picture above is Moses on the foot of the BIG tyrannosaurus.


And Kael slept through all the fun in his stroller!

Kael SMILES

He has been giving us a few smiles (WAY AHEAD OF SCHEDULE OF COURSE) for two or three weeks now, but we finally got serious about catching it on camera. LaShauna has tried earlier, but every time he sees the camera he is more interested in the shiny silver thing then performing.

He is such a good boy. I don't know how we have babies that just eat, sleep, and smile, but for the most part that's what Kael does. We love him and are so happy he is part of our family. Even Moses likes to give him hugs and kisses multiple times a day.

When he isn't smiling......he is for sure sucking SOMETHING. He of course loves his soother (which Moses now calls CC thanks to Riggin and his family), but if he doesn't have his soother than he is sucking whatever he can get. He loves it when he finds his hands near his mouth, he can almost get the whole thing in there!

Banff Orientation

Well our introduction to Rural Medicine was pretty sweet. We had a three day orientation in Banff national park. They paid for our travel and a suite at the Rocky Mountain Resort and then treated us to meals and fun. They did sneak in some actual orientation stuff.....but I don't really remember that. We didn't take too many pictures while we were their because we were having way to much fun.

We went on a boat tour of a lake in Banff, and as you can see, LaShauna was really into it. The rest of us had more important things to do! We also went on a Gondola lift that was actually really fun. Moses loved saying "GONDOLA" and telling us that the other cars were going up and we were going down. We even saw some Mountain Goats at the top.

After Banff we headed staight to Calgary for another (MORE BORING) orientation. But we did get a hotel with a waterslide!

The Remodel

We have been working on our basement suite off and on for the last month when we are not partying in Banff or vacationing in the Okanagan. My parents have been a HUGE help as my Dad has pretty much taught me to do everything...and then done the rest, and my mom helped with everything and pretty much painted the whole basement!


We are so excited to see it come together. We knocked down a wall to add a living room and then built a wall and a closet to make the suite a two bedroom.


We still are not done yet and are going to finish it early August when I get some time off from working in Drumheller. We still have to move the old kitchen cupboards from upstairs down...but we first have to wait for the tenants upstairs to vacate! Eventually it will be done and will look amazing...it already looks GREAT! We will have to give you the before and after shots when we are all done.

Shushwap Vacation

We went to the Shushwaps for our anual Smith-Leavitt-Steed vacation. We rented a sweet cabin and spent a week hanging out with our best friends. What more could you ask for?

This is me wakeboarding! No joke - this is what it looked like when I tried to wakeboard for the majority of the week!

I did finally manage to figure it out! This is me being so awesome and getting out of the wake. Oh, and Scott figured it out too. Just jokes, Scott was AMAZING! He did this sweet, sweet trick where someone on the boat threw him a football while he was wakeboarding and he caught it without falling! Unfortunately someone was too slow with the camera (sorry guys) so you will just have to take my word for it.

It was so beautiful there on the lake. The weather was amazing and the water was great (even if it was a little cold). Here Moses is throwing rocks into the water (a favorite pastime of his wherever we are).


A good old fashioned s'more campfire!

Kael was such a good boy this trip. He was only 6 weeks old, but he was great about chilling at the beach and letting us bundle him up at night. His little swim outfit was a gift from Scott's sister. His rashgaurd says, "King of the Beach" - I think he is such a cutie!

Tommy and Moses! At first Moses was a little afraid of Tommy. Actually he cried everytime Tommy came near him (kind of a sissy boy). But by the end of the week, they got a long great. Someday they will be best buds!

A mom and son tube ride! Even though you can't tell from his facial expressions (you never can tell what he is thinking), Moses loved it. He got really excited (not scared) when it started going faster! In fact, even though Moses is a sissy boy about most things, the boat was not one of them. He loved everything about the boat. Everytime the boat went out, he was sure he was on it. He learned all the boating terminolgy, even busting out a, "Look at the lake, it's like glassssss," when we weren't expecting it.


We alternated between babysitting the kids and golfing. The boys would go, then it would be the girls turn. Yeah, we girls looked great! (that is all I am going to say about our game). Scott golfed a 38 on 9 holes, 3 pars in a row! It was a personal best for him. We girls decided that we will someday retire in the town of Chase where this course is located, with or without our husbands!

The Boys with their creepy mustaches and their sweet, sweet signature moves. Yes our husbands can sometimes be embarrassing, but they make us laugh and that is why we love them!

Kael's Blessing

Kael was blessed on June 8th. It was kind of a crazy time considering that we actually moved on June 9th, so needless to say our house was a little "packed". LaShauna's parents came up for the occasion and it was nice to see them again. My parents were also their straight from their mission in Australia so we all had a good time catching up. Carie was nice enough to let us have a family dinner at her house so we didn't have to sit on wrapped couches and packed boxes.

It was nice to have a bunch of family get together and we all had a good time visiting and taking turns holding Kael.

Girls Night Out

I have a great group of girls that I hung out with in Edmonton regularly. We had playgroups together, shopping trips, and nights out on the town. They were always there for me if we needed a babysitter. We were mostly all part of the same ward and had tons of great bonding times. My days in Edmonton were great because of these women. This was my last night out with them. There are a few girls missing from these pictures, so this isn't everyone. I am going to miss you girls, and you had better let me know if you come down south!

Graduation

My Medical School graduation was this weekend and it was really good. Mind you we did have to sit through what seemed like endless hours of speeches, and most of the time the temperature of the facilities was too hot, but it was a good none-the-less. The banquet that night was amazing, lets just say that the five course meal included a salmon tartar which my Dad "didn't care for" but which he ate all of! It was a great weekend and was good to get together with some of my classmates for what might be the last time. We all still can't believe that we are doctors!

Birth Anouncement

Homecoming

My parents returned from their mission to Adelaide Australia on May 30th. Their flight was delayed and what was supposed to be a 4 PM reunion, turned into a 12 AM get together. The whole family was there to greet Grandma and Grandpa.....and we introduced them to Kael.



They came bearing gifts! Moses loved his boomerang, and I loved my whip. Uncle Tim also got a whip....that he used to give himself a nice red welt on his forehead! It was fun to get together and we all had a great time as a family.
