Happy Easter

We had a lot of fun this Easter weekend. Scott's sister came to town with her 4 kids, so there was a big family get together over the weekend. We went out and spent a couple nights with the fam - and had a blast. Usually the boys get so exhausted from all the excitement and lack of sleep that about half way through the second day they are little grouchy crybabies. But this time they both handled it very well.

We had multiple Easter egg hunts which both Moses and Kael loved. We all went for rides on the quad and played a lot outside. One night all the grandkids went out to build a fire. It was about 9 pm at the time and I was going to make Moses go to bed, but he was so sad and wanted to spend time with his cousins so bad that I caved. He was tired, but he had a really good time. The older boys (the oldest is 14) started the fire and the kids were out there roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. It was a pretty impressive fire to start considering how much water was in the fire pit from the snow melting. They had to bail out the fire pit with a bucket first! I'm glad that Moses has so many good role models - his cousins are the best.

Kael was so funny during the egg hunts. He would crawl and pick up candy and put it in his basket. We just left him on the grass because he seemed to be enjoying himself so much. Then I came back to check on him and he had figured out how to peel the foil off the candy himself! When I found him he was attacking this full size cadberry egg! I knew it was too late to try and take it from him without really upsetting him, so he got his share of Easter sugar rush early!

Pre-Easter Celebrating

Why wait until the actual day to celebrate. We had to dye the eggs ahead of time anyway! Our good friend, hosted a little Easter party for a few friends (there weren't many of us but we sure filled up her little kitchen). We made a craft and colored some eggs. The kids played while us ladies visited. Moses had a really good time. It is the first time he had died eggs, and he really liked it.

We also did some egg dying at home. Kael was a little young, so the closest he came to the die was standing under the table looking up longingly. Moses really got into it. After we dyed them we decorated them with stickers. They were some of the the most over decorated eggs I have ever seen! Moses has since asked me if we could dye some more eggs. As much fun as it was, I'm glad we only do that once a year.

Busted!

I caught them in the act! Every mother knows that when it is suddenly quiet you need to check on those kids quickly!!! Well, I went quickly and this is what I found. How proud I was of my two little readers!! I really do have good, well behaved little boys. And the fact that they both love reading is just a bonus.

Banff

We traveled to Banff so Scott could take a course on labor and delivery. Scott was really busy so it was just me and the boys hanging out most of the time. We went swimming, ordered pizzas watched movies in our room, went to the mall, and roamed the streets of Banff in search of the best candy (Moses preferred the alphabet candy. It was like smarties in the shapes of the letters of the alphabet. That boy loves letters!). Despite how this picture looks, we actually had a really good time. When I took this picture Moses was crying because one of his noodles fell on the floor and I wouldn't pick it up for him. He didn't want to eat it, he just hates messes and wanted me to pick it up. I told him if it bothered him he should pick it up, but he refused because it would get his hands "yucky". No kidding, he actually said that and then burst into tears. I thought it was so funny that I stopped to take the picture before picking up the offending noodle myself.

The weather has been crazy here. 2 weeks ago Moses was building a snowman. Last weekend it was so nice that Scott got a sunburn on his head. And then yesterday it snowed again! We were playing inside today and I felt inspired to take some pictures (mostly thanks to you, Naoma!) of the boys playing together. They don't always get along, but when they do it makes me happier than I ever thought a person could be over another's behavior! Who knew a tunnel could be so much fun!!

Happy Birthday to ME!!!!!

I just had the greatest birthday. Thank you to everyone who called and emailed and facebooked - you made me feel great! Scott is the greatest at making my birthday really special. He does all those little things that just make you fell spoiled. He only had to work for a few hours yesterday(quite a miracle really!). He made me French Toast for breakfast, took me out to lunch, and took care of dinner too. He made me a cake and did all the dishes. AND he got me the best gifts!! It was the best day ever. If only everyday could be a birthday!




Check out my new purse - which I LOVE!!!!! Scott had a friend pick it up in NY, NY. It was exactly what I wanted. I went out today and smiled to myself everytime I could get something out or put something in my new purse!

once there was a snowman...

We went out to visit Scott's parents last week. Just for fun. They always seem to be coming to our house and we rarely drive out there. So we made the trip and spent the afternoon just visiting. Moses and Grandma took advantage of the sunshine and made a snowman.

Moses named his snowman Igloo. I thought that was a pretty good name for a snowman!

First Hair Cut

Kael's hair was getting a bit shaggy. Even Moses said he looked like a girl. So I decided it was time to let him finally get his hair cut. Just a little around the ears and from the forehead. It doesn't look that different but much neater. He didn't mind it too much, but he didn't make it easy on Grandma either. He wiggled way too much! He looks so much better now! People are again stopping me in public to tell me what a beautiful baby I have. (They stopped doing that for awhile). Here is the after picture.

Just the two of us

The joys of a weekend away. Already this seems like such a long time ago. Just before Kael got sick, Scott's parents watched BOTH boys for us for 3 nights while we went to Banff. Scott had a medical conference in Banff and I tagged along. It was so great. I don't really ski or snowboard, so I just spent three days feeling completly relaxed. I even slept until 11:30 one day! (okay, I got up and 7 to got to a lecture with Scott, then went back to bed at 8 and stayed asleep until 11:30). I didn't know I still knew how to sleep in. Scott went to a bunch of classes and meetings. I felt bad for him, but he seemed to enjoy them. It was an amazing three days.

The first night there we were too excited to sleep. We were so used to being tied to our hotel room that at first it felt funny to check in and then just leave again. We went into town and found a place that had a live band. (Alright, I admit it, this place was a bar. Although bars are much more pleasnat to be in now that Alberta has a no smoking bylaw. It didn't even feel like a bar, more like a resturant.) The band was suprisingly good and we had so much fun just listening to music and dancing. We used to love to go to live bands before. I felt so young - not that I'm really old but sometimes I think when you have kids you have to act older than you are or feel. It was a great start to our weekend.

The next night we drove into Calgary (a little over an hour away) and went to a Calgary Flames game. I love live hockey and Scott loves all Flames hockey so it was really fun for both of us. It was even better that the Flames beat the Minnesota Wild by a whopping 4-1!!!! In football score that would be like 28-7! (Just for those non-hockey people that read my blog - you know who you are). As you can tell from the pictures, we sat way up in the nose-bleeds (hockey tickets are actually expensive up here in Canada) but the little people were still bigger than when we watch on our TV - tells you how sad our TV is!

The trip seemed too short, and we had to come home to a sick baby. But I am so glad we went. It is great to know that I still enjoying hanging out with my husband and he is still my best friend.

Not again!!!!

Kael was in the hospital again this last week. Another respiratory problem. I'm starting to feel like Natasha!! Kael had a cold for about a week and then it moved into his lungs. He was having to work pretty hard for every breath so Scott and I felt it would be best to take him in and have is oxygen levels checked. Scott called me Tuesday morning and said the ER was pretty empty and I should come in quick. A few phone calls to find someone to watch Moses and I was there 30 minutes later. The ER was pretty empty, but it still took almost 2 hours before I saw a doctor. A chest x-ray, two breathing treatments, and another 2 hours later and he was being admited for overnight observation. Kael's oxygen levels were all OK, but the doctor was worried about his labored breathing. I was talking to Scott and I don't know that I would have been admitted if we lived in the states, but I think it was a smart preventative move ont he part of the doctors. I have to admit, I was dreading another hospital stay. But he was only in overnight and we were blessed once again to have Scott's parents so close. They were able to come and take Moses to stay at their house. I don't know what we would have done without them. Kael is much better now, back to his usual happy self!

Same pink PJs, same crib, same room. That's right, we were admitted to the same exact hospital room! I'm starting to think of it as my own personal home away from home.
